Some 67 percent of the population in sub-Saharan Africa has a smartphone. But there are often only one or two doctors for every 10,000 people – and sometimes not even that.

Digital inclusion can solve many of the problems that are part of everyday life for families in developing countries. But the road to that progress is bumpy.

Around 43% of Africa’s population live without access to reliable energy – most of them in rural areas.

In this team event, you will build complex solar systems that give these people access to clean energy.

The team building event that makes a difference:

Working in small teams, you will build an EcoBuddy, a modular and complex solar system that is much more than just a source of energy. It connects people in developing countries, who often live without electricity, to each other and to the world.

This enables families in these regions to carry out seemingly simple activities that make a huge difference to their lives:
They can get medical advice over the phone, access weather services for their village’s agriculture, or allow their children to study in the dark at night – and much more.

Medicine

Medical professionals often practice mainly in urban centres, leaving people in rural areas without access to medical care. Technology enables these communities to communicate and receive advice and help from doctors in the centres.

Work and innovation

Digital inclusion ensures better working conditions, for example through new local sales opportunities, fairer pricing through transparency or more diverse payment options.

Education and equal opportunities

Access to stable electricity means new opportunities for teachers and students (especially girls) to provide and receive education.

Clean Energy

Solar energy is always a contribution against climate change. For example, the solar system replaces toxic and harmful kerosine lamps.

This event was born out of our partnership with SolarBuddy. Simon Doble founded SolarBuddy with this in mind:
“Impact is about giving people a leg up, not a handout. It’s about empowering them to be the best versions of themselves.”

We are inspired by his vision and the team’s passion for this worthy cause.
