Three ways to a great celebration

A Christmas party with a programme stays in memory longer than a menu alone. Three approaches work well: a social impact activity where your team builds something that is donated, a winter version of the city rally as an opener before dinner, or a short format of 45 to 60 minutes in between. All formats fit into an evening, start from 10 people and run in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

How to plan your Christmas party

Two factors decide the schedule: the time of day and the group size. If the programme starts before 6 pm, an outdoor rally also works. After that, indoor formats remain. For more than 100 people, we split the group into parallel stations so that no one has to wait.

December dates fill up early. For a preferred date in the second week of December, it is worth asking in summer.

Five steps belong to the planning: set the budget, choose the location, decide on and book the programme and activities, organise catering and drinks, and send the invitation in good time.

Christmas party ideas: what makes a Christmas party

Inspiration is everywhere: when it comes to Christmas party ideas, there are countless possibilities. You can take up traditional elements and give them a modern touch, or try something completely new and unique. What matters most is that your own creativity and taste set the tone. After all, Christmas is a personal and emotional time, and your party should reflect that.

What is a Christmas party?

Christmas parties are special gatherings held to celebrate the festive season. They are organised by individuals, families, friends and organisations such as schools, churches and companies. The style and traditions of Christmas parties can vary greatly depending on culture, religion and personal preference, but at their core they are all about coming together and celebrating the festive season.

Elements of a Christmas party

Despite the differences, there are some common elements that are often found at Christmas parties. Here are a few of them.

Decorations: Christmas parties are often decked out with a wide range of festive decorations. These include Christmas trees, lights, garlands, wreaths and often figures such as Santa Claus or snowmen. These decorations help create a cheerful and festive atmosphere.

Food and drink: good food and drink is often a central part of Christmas parties. Traditional Christmas meals vary from country to country, but often include dishes such as turkey, ham, Christmas cookies and Christmas pudding. Mulled wine, eggnog and other festive drinks are often part of the offering too.

Gifts: in many cultures, exchanging gifts is an important part of Christmas parties. This can take the form of a traditional gift exchange among colleagues, or games such as Secret Santa, where each participant brings an anonymous gift for another person.

Music and entertainment: Christmas carols and music are often an important part of Christmas parties. Whether it is singing carols, watching Christmas films or playing festive games, entertainment helps lift the mood and foster togetherness.

Why Christmas party ideas matter for companies

Companies are not just places of business and work, but also communities that come together to achieve shared goals. And just like any community, a company also needs times of relaxation and celebration to strengthen the sense of togetherness and keep motivation up. This is especially important during the Christmas season, when the mood is festive and people look for ways to express their appreciation for one another. This is where the importance of Christmas party ideas for companies comes into play.

Christmas parties as team building activities

A well planned and well run Christmas party can be far more than just a sociable get-together. It can serve as a kind of team building activity that helps build relationships, strengthen trust and foster a positive work culture. It is a chance for employees to get to know their colleagues in a less formal and less stressful setting, which can help break down personal barriers and foster a stronger sense of team spirit.

Recognition and appreciation

Christmas parties also offer a wonderful opportunity to recognise the achievements and efforts of your employees. Through awards, gifts or simply words of recognition, you can show your employees that their hard work is seen and appreciated. This can not only boost job satisfaction and motivation, but also strengthen the sense of loyalty and belonging to the company.

Fostering a positive work culture

An inspiring Christmas party can help foster a positive and inclusive work culture. It is a time when diversity can be celebrated and respected by including all employees, regardless of their background, in the festivities. It can also be a chance to highlight company values in a relaxed and informal setting.
